Over 200 high school students representing 17 schools  from Mississippi and Tennessee met at Mississippi State University on September 22-23, 2006 for the John C. Stennis Novice Speech and Debate Tournament.

On February 3, 2006, ABC News journalist Cokie Roberts participated in a roundtable discussion with Stennis Fellows from the 109th Congress.

On January 24-25, 2006, the winners of leadership awards for outstanding public service aboard the USS CARL VINSON aircraft carrier were hosted in Washington, DC by the Stennis Center.
