Profiles in Public Service - ABE1 (AW/SW) Hector Losoya
Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) First Class Hector Losoya was honored with the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) Pacific Thunder Award. He was born January 24, 1970, to parents Sr. Hector Hugo and Alma R. Losoya in Laredo, Texas. He is the oldest of two children and has a sister, Alma Judith Saldivar. Petty Officer Losoya is the only member in the history of his family to join the U.S. Military.
Losoya graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 1988. He joined the United States Navy through the Delayed Entry Program in August of 1990. On October 2, 1990, he reported to Recruit Training Center San Diego, California, and graduated that December. He reported to his first command, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in January 1991. While on the Carl Vinson, he promoted to third class petty officer. From there Losoya reported to VS-41, an S-3 Viking training squadron, in February 1995 located in San Diego, California. He advanced to second class petty officer while attached to VS-41. In March 1997, Losoya reported to the USS Constellation (CV 64), and was assigned Bow Catapult Number One Work Center Supervisor. While on the Constellation, Losoya qualified as an Aviation Warfare Specialist and promoted to first class petty officer. In January he left the Constellation and reported to Navy Tactical Training Center in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated in April 2001, obtaining the security and law enforcement specialist NEC. Losoya reported to NAS Fallon, Nevada Security Detachment in May 2001. While at NAS Fallon, he qualified as watch commander. Petty Officer Losoya reported to USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in September 2004. He was assigned to Air Department V-2 division Quality Assurance Branch. He is currently the bow catapult leading petty officer.
Losoya married his soul mate, Theresa S. Corral, from El Paso, Texas, on October 14, 1995 and has two children; Ethan Jacob, age 7, and Isabel Estela, age 3. They reside in Chula Vista, California.
