David O'B. Martin is President of Martin, Fisher, Thompson & Associates, a Washington based government affairs, consulting and marketing firm established in 2000.
From 1997 through 2000, he was President of InterBev Limited, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Soft Drink Association that produced the most comprehensive all-beverage trade show and conference in the world. The company was sold in late 1999. For the previous three years, he served as Vice President for State and Local Affairs of the National Soft Drink Association.
Mr. Martin is a veteran of state and local governments in his native New York, having served as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1980 and as a St. Lawrence County legislator for three years prior to his service in Albany.
In 1980 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives where he served for six terms representing the northern and central areas of New York. During his service in Congress, he was a member of the Committee on Armed Services for ten years and was the senior Republican member of the Military Installations Subcommittee as well as Vice Chairman of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Panel overseeing military commissaries, exchanges and related activities worldwide. Congressman Martin also served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
In 1992, Congressman Martin chose not to seek reelection and subsequently became a professor of national security decision making at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. A 1966 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Martin served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded several personal decorations. He is also a graduate of the Albany Law School and practiced law in Canton, N.Y. prior to his election to Congress.
Mr. Martin and his wife, Dana, reside in Hedgesville, West Virginia.
